An Evaluation of the Neuroprotective and Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Cold Macerated Methanol Extract of Salvia Officinalis.
Main Article Content
Abstract
This investigation evaluated the effects of a cold-macerated Salvia officinalis leaf extract in methanol on neuroprotection and inflammation. This extract's neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties were evaluated in vitro on the RAW264.7 and SK-N-SH cell lines. The extract was tested in this study at various doses in well controlled laboratory conditions. By measuring intracellular reactive oxygen species levels, cytokines, and lipoxygenase inhibition, the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective qualities were assessed and evaluated. According to the study findings and results, the extract demonstrated a concentration-dependent inhibition of lipoxygenase, decreased the production of cytokines suggestive of an anti-inflammatory activity, and revealed a neuroprotective impact in terms of improvement in intracellular reactive oxygen species levels. The current work clearly shows that cold-macerated methanolic leaf extract from Salvia officinalis possesses anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in vitro.
