Abstract

Adsorption is a fundamental process in the physicochemical treatment of wastewaterswhich industries employ to reduce hazardous organic and inorganic wastes in effluents. In recentyears the use of low-cost adsorbents has been widely investigated as a replacement for the currentlycostly methods of removing heavy metal ions from wastewater. It is well-known that cellulosicwaste materials can be obtained and employed as cheap adsorbents and their performance to removeheavy metal ions can be affected upon chemical treatment. In this study, the use of some of low costadsorbents for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater has been reviewed.
