Comprehensive Management of Post Covid Mandibular Mucormycosis: A Case Report
Main Article Content
Abstract
Rationale: Patients who have recovered from a SARS-CoV-2 infection are at risk of uncommon fungal infection. Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus with other systemic illness has shown tremendous immunosuppressant which had ultimately caused Mucormycosis. Mandibular mucormycosis in post Covid cases are extremely rare, according to published reports. In this case we did marginal mandibulectomy as well as prosthetic rehabilitation. Patient Concerns: A 54‑year‑old male patient reported with pain and mobility in the right mandibular first and second premolar regions. Diagnosis: The presences of Rhizopus Mucor hyphae in biopsy report and positive KOH mount suggest Mandibular fungal infection. Treatment: Marginal mandibulectomy followed by prosthetic rehabilitation with basal implant. Take-away Lessons: Clinicians should periodically monitor COVID-19 patients for fungi, especially those who are immunosuppressed and have serious illnesses. Mandibular discontinuity produces severe cosmetic and functional deformities therefore rehabilitation after such treatment is utmost important.
